Islamic architecture has been expressing religion and emotions since 7th century. Originally modeled after the dome of the rock in Jerusalem, this style of architecture has been said to have the most expressive art. Architectural styles included the horseshoe arch, columns and mosaics on a gold dome surface. Decorated squinces also dominated some designs. Another feature seen in mosques are large columns and court yards for prayer.
